Macy's, JC Penny and Kohl's all opened at 8pm on Thanksgiving Day last year. This year Macy's is moving the time up til 6pm and other stores are expected to file suit. I wonder if this is a new trend? That in order to turn a profit companies have to open up during dinner time on a major US holiday? In Massachusetts, Maine and Rhode Island though there are 'blue laws' on the books that prohibit the sales to start on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Will more laws be passed in order to curb the huge shopping days in states that are even more conservative than these New England states?
I think that it's sad, that one would trade an evening of board games, swapping stories, and making turkey for mobs at the mall. American's are willing to trade those things for deals, isn't that what we love about this country?
